Wilgerbosdrift’s inform sire Fire Away made headlines on Monday when his high-class daughter Egyptian Mau was sold for $475 000 at the Fasig-Tipton The November Sale.
Consigned by Bluewater Sales, the mare was sold to St Elias Stables on Monday. Egyptian Mau was sold as a Racing/Broodmare Prospect.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Egyptian Mau was a graded stakes winner in both South Africa and the USA.
The daughter of Fire Away made eight starts in South Africa where she won the G3 HSH Princess Charlene Starling Stakes and ran second in the G1 Douglas Whyte Thekwini Stakes.

Sent to North America, Egyptian Mau won twice including the 2026 G3 Belmont Turf Sprint Stakes.
The mare, a half-sister to 2024 G3 Tabgold Godolphin Barb Stakes winner Cymric, is out of the winning Fort Wood mare Savannah Cat, a half-sister to G3 Kings Cup winner Bulleting Home.

Her sire Fire Away’s close relative Pentathlon (by Speightstown) made headlines this past weekend when he won the G3 Forty Niner Stakes at Belmont Park. A regally bred five-year-old, Pentathlon’s fourth dam is unbeaten G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff queen Personal Ensign, with the latter granddam of Fire Away.

Fire Away himself is the sire of smart performers Fortress Of Fire and Noble Saint, with the former winning for a sixth time when victorious at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday, and Noble Saint catching the eye when finishing third in Saturday’s G3 TAB Graham Beck Stakes.
