Wilgerbosdrift’s increasingly successful sire Fire Away came up with a hugely impressive debut winner on Friday.
His two-year-old daughter Casperita made the perfect start to her career when she romped home to win the first race at Fairview on Friday.
Under Richard Fourie, the Alan Greeff trained juvenile flew out of the starting stalls in Friday’s Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1000m).
Casperita pulled well clear in the closing stages before going on to post a six and three quarter length win on debut.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the filly races for the Wernars Family.
Casperita, who is out of the Fort Wood mare Pumpkin Queen, was a R300 000 purchase from the 2025 National Yearling Sale.
Her sire Fire Away, whose son Sky Pillar Rock won at the Vaal on Thursday, went on to enjoy more success on Friday.
His Dean Smith trained son Tintamarre made it four wins from his last six starts when he won Friday’s www.tabracing.com MR 82 Handicap (1200m).
Under Craig Zackey, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred gelding made much of the running to score by three-parts of a length.
Now a five time winner, Tintamarre races for Messrs G C Cornwall, G A Basel & L Clark.
Fire Away has ten lots on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale, and a further nine lots on offer at the Premier Yearling Sale.
