Hawwaam gelding wins TAB Graham Beck Stakes

Wilgerbosdrift’s homebred champion, and five time G1 winner, Hawwaam looks to have a very smart son on his hands in the form of Fierceness.
The latter made it three wins, from four starts, when he won the G3 TAB Graham Beck Stakes (1400m) at TAB Turffontein on Saturday.
Trained by Mike and Mathew De Kock, progressive three-year-old Fierceness was given a confident ride by the France bound Muzi Yeni in Saturday’s R400 000 contest.

Yeni kept his mount close to the pace, before asking Fierceness to quicken 300m from home. The son of Hawwaam kicked on strongly, with Fierceness staying on too strongly for his rivals to score by two and a quarter lengths.
A magnificent specimen, Fierceness had romped home to a facile debut win before finishing second, to the talented Gimme Some Luck, over 1160m. The gelding came into the Graham Beck off a hard fought win over 1000m, but clearly benefitted from the step up in trip on Saturday.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Fierceness is owned by TKP Racing, Dayalan Chinsammy , E Naicker, Y Naidoo, P M Murugasa & K M Chetty.

A R1 300 000 buy from the 2025 National Yearling Sale, and bred on similar lines to the Silvano sired champion Sparkling Water, Fierceness is out of the smart racemare Gin Fizz. The latter, a daughter of Soft Falling Rain, won four times and ran second in the G2 Joburg Spring F &M Challenge.
Fierceness was one of two winners at TAB Turffontein on Saturday for Hawwaam, with the latter’s son Highwayman Harry winning the tenth and final race. Under a great ride from Muzi Yeni, the Dianne Stenger trained four-year-old flew up late to nab the previously unbeaten Dog In The Fog and land the Next TAB Turffontein Racemeeting Thursday 5 November MR 82 Handicap by a short-head.
