Wilgerbosdrift’s high-class sire Fire Away enjoyed a good day on Friday, with the son of War Front responsible for a pair of eye catching winners.
Fire Away gelding Tintamarre made it two wins from his last three starts when making much of the running to win Friday’s Racing240 MR 90 Handicap (1200m) at Fairview.
Trained by Dean Smith, the four-year-old was given a well judged ride by Chase Maujean, who kept Tintamarre going to score by a length and a half.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Tintamarre has won six of 21 starts, with the gelding having reeled off a hatrick of wins last year.
Out of the Tiger Ridge mare Oyster Pond, Friday’s winner races for Grant Cornwall, Gary Basel and Lance Clark.
His sire Fire Away also looks to have come up with a promising two-year-old in the form of Fire Chief.
The latter caught the eye when he made a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday evening.
Trained by Gareth Van Zyl, the Fire Away gelding unleashed a fine turn of foot which saw Fire Chief storm home to claim the www.galloptv.co.za Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m) by nearly two and a quarter lengths.
Bred by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds, Fire Chief is out of the Trippi mare Brave New World. The two-year-old is owned by Messrs R G Hampson, K Parkinson, H F Schwegmann & J Te Riele.
His inform sire went close to having a two-year-old double on Friday, with Fire Away filly Casperita running second in the first race at Fairview.
